Until a few years ago, pollution was a common problem in Beijing, the capital of China, and other areas. Beigou Village, located near the Great Wall of China, was no exception. There was a glazed tiles & bricks factory here, emitting heavy smoke, and the surrounding area was littered with garbage. But today, the situation has completely changed. The factory site has been replaced by the popular heritage resort called BRICKYARD, offering a magnificent view of the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, tourists come to this place to enjoy the serene and picturesque environment. Furthermore, Beigou Village has earned the title of “The most attractive leisure village in China” and The most beautiful village in Beijing”

How the plight of this area changed?

Earlier, the story of this area was different. The mountainous village of Beigou was plagued by dust, smoke, and filth, a major cause of which was a glazed tiles and bricks factory. Later, due to declining market demand and other reasons, the factory closed. Meanwhile, an American citizen named Jim Spear and his wife, Liang Tang, opened a unique heritage hotel, the BRICKYARD, on this site in 2010. They lived nearby and were fed up with the smoke, dust, and dirt emanating from the factory’s as much as 9 chimneys.

The hotel was renovated from a glazed tile & bricks factory, preserving as much as possible the original appearance and firing marks of the factory. The name “BRICKYARD” retains its historical memory, and the original several old cave dwellings have been preserved. The integration of brick and tile elements with modern art can be seen everywhere in the hotel.

Currently, Qin Qianfeng owns this heritage hotel. He is proud to carry forward this historical legacy.
